My Story...

Chandler, Shawn M. Cox
On an overcast November afternoon in 1999, I was flipping through channels on daytime TV, looking for something engaging to watch. I stumbled upon a program that demonstrated how to make homemade candles. It quickly got my attention. You see, I had been wanting a hobby, and was looking for a great way to offer handmade holiday gifts for friends and family. I watched the show with rapt interest, and decided to give candle making a try. Well, my first few tries were very basic looking (“rustic” may have been a polite adjective to describe them.) But I kept at it, and over the course of the next few years, I would hone my technique, and experimented to see what fragrances were most appealing to my loyal, candle testing friends and colleagues. I grew to love candle making. I discovered that I had a knack for creating distinctive candles, and had a great eye for presentation. It didn’t take long at all for my loyal, candle testing friends to spread the word and before you knew it, I had holiday orders pouring in! My candle making “hobby” was proving to be quite successful.
But in 2007, an opportunity presented itself. I, along with millions of others, found myself out of work due to corporate downsizing. On that fateful day, as I walked away from the office building, I was looking down at my box full of belongings, and an idea took hold: what about making candles full time? Ever since I had been bitten by the “candle making bug,” I realized I was passionate about making beautifully crafted candles, and wanted to get get and sell them in craft fairs and retail shops….this seemed as good as a time as any to give it a go! During these past few years, I have learned a much about the art of making candles and business of selling them. But my commitment to the following basics has never wavered:
*Simplicity. I strive to create a line of candles that I can replicate consistently, efficiently and with integrity.
*Safety. Whitehall Candle Company candles are safe, contained, clean-burning and environmentally friendly.
*Beauty. Whitehall Candle Company candles are beautifully packaged, and perfect for any gift giving occasion
*And lastly, value. It is important to me to offer an affordable luxury to candle lovers.
By taking these important basics into mind, I have been able to package them into a simple concept:
“Understated elegance and affordable luxury.”
