              FAQ's

____What type of wax and wicks do you use?

We use pure soy wax and cotton wicks, both of which are made here int he USA.

Can these candles be used for massage?

Yes, our soy candles are made from skin safe ingredients; however we feel massage oils or lotions are better suited for this type of application.

              Why are soy candles better?

Soy "wax" is a natural and renewable resource, unlike paraffin wax which is a byproduct of the petroleum industry. Soy candles give off considerably less soot than paraffin candles and burn cooler and slower thereby lasting longer. Our soy wax comes from farmers in the Midwest and is biodegradable.

              Why has my candle liquefied?

If you're new to the world of soy candles, don't worry. This is exactly how the soy candle should burn, once the top 1/2 inch of the candle is liquid or after burning for the recommended time, extinguish the candle. Depending on the rooms temperature, the candle will completely solidify within 30-60 minutes and you can relight the candle after the wick has been trimmed to 1/4 of an inch.

How long should I burn my candle for?

The general rule of thumb for candle burning is 1 hour for every inch of the candle's diameter. If your candle is 3" wide, you should burn the candle for 3 hours; 2" wide candles for 2 hours.

              Will these candles "smoke"?

The advantage of soy candles is that they produce little to now smoke. To avoid smoking, only burn the candle for the suggested time, allow the candle to cool completely then trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch before relighting. Burning a candle for longer then recommended and not trimming the wick regularly will cause any wax to super heat. This causes the wax to be used up faster then the wick can self trim resulting in "mushrooming" and smoking.

Where do your fragrances come from?

Most of our fragrances come from here in the US and all are produced of safe ingredients and are free of paraben's. We only purchase fragrances from company's who are members "RIFM" (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials); a nonprofit corporation that gathers, tests and evaluates fragrance ingredients to insure the public's safety. Do the candles smell the same when burning?

Yes, each fragrance is tested for quality and consistency. If the fragrance "morphs" or changes in any way while burning, we will not use the fragrance in our candles. What you smell is what you get!

Will the fragrance last through the life of the candle?

There's nothing more frustrating then having a candle that loses it's scent before the whole candle is used up. At Whitehall Candle Company, if a fragrance doesn't hold up throughout the life of the candle during testing and trials, we DO NOT put into production.  That being said it is also good to note that after being exposed to a fragrance for four or more consecutive day's you may experience what is called "olfactory fatigue". This could cause a fragrance to be difficult to detect temporarily, try switching to a different fragrance for a few day's.
